For some reason virtual spiders make my skin crawl a lot more than physical examples in front of me. Then again, we don’t get the monster sized and/or deadly ones over here*.

I think it has to do with being more conscious of them and alert to your surroundings.
At least, it is in my case. Whenever I’m reading about spider or looking at pictures, I always get very attuned to any sort of peripheral movement.
